The checkout page is a staple for all ecommerce stores, but the checkout experience itself is not personalized to your customers' desires, leading to untapped revenue and checkout abandonment. Best of all, you can realize all of these benefits in record time. Rebuy’s no-code solution lets you get product recommendations setup in minutes. With just a few clicks, you can have intelligent product recommendations in the checkout, and you can change where you want them to show with an easy-to-use drag and drop editor.

Important Details and FAQs

  • Am I required to switch the Checkout Page widget to Checkout Extensions?

    • Merchants are not obliged to switch from our existing Checkout Page widget to Checkout Extensions at this time. Our goal is to reach feature parity and beyond with Checkout Extensions and migrate our merchants over to that in a timely manner so they can get all future feature updates. Due to this, we will be putting future development resources and new features into Checkout Extension and not the Checkout Page widget.

  • Will this affect any current customizations merchants have made to checkout.liquid?

  • What is the difference between Checkout Extensions and the Checkout Page Widget?

    • The Checkout Extensions have been built for a seamless setup, with the ability to be placed on Shop Pay pages and a no-code implementation on Headless Store checkouts.

  • Do Checkout Extensions support all data source rules?

    • Checkout Extensions do not support the following data source rules.

      • URL Parameters

      • Order Tags

      • Collections

In the case that one or more of these limitations apply to a merchant's store, we would recommend that you use our Checkout Page widget, which offers similar functionality via the checkout.liquid. Once a blocking restriction has been lifted, we would encourage merchants to move to Checkout Extensions to get access to the latest features available.

Let's get started and build your Shopify Checkout Extensions!

The first thing we’ll want to do is set up a Checkout Extensions widget in Rebuy. Do this by logging into your Rebuy Dashboard, navigating to the Widgets section, and selecting the new Checkout Extensions Widget.

Once you click the Checkout Extensions Widget, you will be redirected to a new page where you can modify any existing extension widget or build a new one.

Next, you can select the types of products you want to display in your product recommendations. This can always be customized later, so feel free to choose any one here that fits your needs.

By default, a widget will be built with the recommended AI pre-configured in the data source, so you will see a preview of those recommendations.

NOTE: The preview will not show exactly how the widget will be presented in the Shopify checkout. Shopify does not allow third-party apps to customize their checkout, so we are limited to what they give merchants out of the box. You can always modify your checkout in the Shopify theme editor.

Next you can go to your data source and configure what you would like to display in the checkout extensions.

NOTE: Checkout extensions do not currently support URL parameters, order tags, or collections-based data source rules.

Once you select the products you want to display, you’ll be given a Widget ID on the widget page for the Checkout Extensions. Go ahead and copy that. You will need it in a second!

Next, you will need to hop over to your Shopify theme > Checkout Editor. You can do that by either clicking the link in the widget or through the native navigation in the Shopify admin.

From the Checkout Editor, click Add App at the bottom-left corner. This is where you can select Rebuy as an app to include in your checkout.

Once you add Rebuy, select your extension, and drag to your desired location on the checkout. Then paste the Widget ID from before into the Widget ID section of the checkout settings and click save.

NOTE: This will not automatically update, so you must refresh your browser.

Upon saving and page refresh. The product offers will now show in the desired location you chose in the previous step.

Voilà! Your Checkout Extensions Widget is now available on your checkout page. Congratulations! You are now ready to boost sales and reduce abandonment.
