Using Shopify Bundles in Rebuy Smart Cart

A guide for how Shopify Bundles and Smart Cart can be integrated together.

If you're using Shopify Bundles and Rebuy Smart Cart on your store there are a few considerations to keep in mind to ensure the best integration possible.

Bundle Configuration

Bundles can be configured in 2 ways (Jan 2024).

  1. Pre-built: the customer does not choose which product variants to bundle. The merchant sets the variants and the customer simply clicks add.

  2. Customizable: the customer is able to choose which product variants they want to bundle together.

Integrating with Smart Cart

Pre-built bundles will not display correctly in Smart Cart. This is due to a Shopify limitation. The bundle items data is not accessible by Rebuy to populate correctly in Smart Cart.

Customizable bundles will display correctly in Smart Cart. When the customer is able to choose the variants they want to bundle, Rebuy is able to access that data and populate the bundle in Smart Cart correctly.

There currently is no workaround for displaying pre-built Shopify Bundles in Smart Cart. Rebuy is not able to access the bundle items data necessary to do so.

How Shopify Bundles display in Smart Cart

Customizable Bundle

This bundle allows the customer to choose which variants they want to bundle. Rebuy needs options to display the bundle correctly.

Important

Please note that Rebuy needs your Shopify Bundle variants to end in a ")" in order for us to correctly display the variant images in Smart Cart. You can edit this directly in the Shopify Bundle settings, separate from Shopify Product settings.

Pre-built Bundle

This bundle does not allow any options for the customer to choose from so the bundle will not display correctly in Smart Cart.

Remember Rebuy needs the bundle to have options in order to display it correctly in Smart Cart. Rebuy is not able to access a pre-built bundles item data.

Recommendations

Because Rebuy is not able to properly display pre-built Shopify Bundles in Smart Cart, we suggest you tag those bundles with smart-cart-hide-bundle-options.


This is a Rebuy tag that when applied to pre-built Shopify Bundles will automatically hide the bundle dropdown option in Smart Cart. Instead of the image above, that same bundle would instead look like this.

There is no longer a drop down option that shows the broken bundle items.


Conclusion

Smart Cart will correctly display Shopify Bundles if that bundle is built with options for the customer to choose the variants they want to add.

Bundles that are pre-built without customer options will not display correctly in Smart Cart due to a Shopify limitation preventing Rebuy from accessing the item data in pre-built bundles.

Regardless of how your Shopify Bundle is configured, Shopify should display it correctly at checkout. This is due to internal Shopify capabilities Rebuy does not have access to.
