Enabling Smart Search involves just a few steps, including settings within the Rebuy administrative portal and adjustments within your Shopify theme. This document will outline those steps to help you get started!

Smart Search Installation

Before you begin, ensure that you have thoroughly reviewed and configured your Smart Search settings for your quick view, results page, keywords, and general settings!

Don't forget, you can always preview your settings within the editor preview and in the store preview. Using the in-store preview method allows you to view it on your live site without your customers being able to see it. This is an excellent way to ensure the search bar aligns with your branding needs.

Checkout our step by step instructions to enabling Smart Search for your Shopify store.

Enable the Rebuy Connector

The Rebuy Connector πŸ”„ may already be enabled in your settings if you had previously set it up during your onboarding process or when enabling a separate feature which requires it. We recommend you confirming this just to be certain that it is toggled on.

To verify, you can navigate to your Shopify settings > sales channels > online store > click "customize" on your live theme > click "app embeds" on the left-hand navigation > confirm that the Rebuy Connector is toggled on.

Disable Native Search Engine

Depending on your current theme version, there are two different steps you will need to take to disable the native search engine.

Disabling Shopify Search on a 1.0 Vintage theme

If you are using a 1.0 vintage Shopify theme, no specific actions are required to disable the native search engine within your store's settings. Once you activate the search feature within Rebuy, we will automatically inject code to take control of the search for your store.

Additional options are available for adding custom selectors within the quick view and results page settings. If your theme does not precisely align with the default elements targeted by the Rebuy settings, you can incorporate trigger and embed elements to ensure accurate alignment.

If you encounter any issues with Rebuy's Smart Search not appearing or behaving correctly for your 1.0 vintage theme, please reach out to support for assistance. They can help troubleshoot and resolve any issues you may encounter.

Disabling Shopify Search on a 2.0 Theme

In your Shopify Admin, under Sales Channel, click on Online Store to view the Themes page. Then click on Customize for your theme.

Once you are in the Theme Previewer, locate Home page at the top, and search for the Search page.

On the left navigation bar under Template, hover over Search Results and click on the eye icon to hide/disable Shopify's default search result page.

Once hidden, make sure to save your work by clicking Save on the top right of the previewer.

Disable Third Party Search Apps

It's important to note that Rebuy's Smart Search does not integrate with other third-party search engines, so those must be deactivated as well. Please ensure to follow the instructions provided on your third-party app's website to deactivate it if you are using one before proceeding with Rebuy's Smart Search.

Enabling Rebuy Smart Search

The final step to enable search for both vintage and 2.0 themes is to toggle it on within the global settings page.

Once Search is enabled for the first time, please allow up to 30 minutes for your products to sync. If you experience any issues, reach out to support.
