Configure how your search results are presented to shoppers. The presentation of search results is just as crucial as the contents of the results themselves. Customize search results to minimize friction and maximize conversions.
Results Page Editor Preview
The Results Page editor includes a live preview of your actual storefront, rendered directly within the Rebuy admin as you configure settings. The preview reflects your real store theme, product catalog, and branding. Changes made in the editor do not go live until saved.
How the preview loads when you open the editor:
Existing Smart Search users: The preview automatically loads using your store's top search data, so a relevant result set appears right away without any input required.
Net-new Smart Search users (no prior search history): You'll be prompted to enter a search term to activate the preview. Once entered, the preview renders results from your storefront for that query.
Layout Options
You can choose from the following layout options for the Results Page:
Dropdown Layout
Sidebar Layout
Flyout Filters
You can preview how each layout will appear on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Note: Currently, the same layout must be applied across all device types; different layouts for different devices are not supported.
Layout Settings: Toggle Search Bar on Results Page
Some merchants have a full search bar in their website header—not just a search icon. If that's the case for your store, you may prefer to disable the search bar on the Results Page to avoid redundancy.
How does it work?
By default, the search bar is displayed on the Results Page.
If you toggle it off, the search bar will no longer appear there. This can help streamline your layout if a search bar already exists in your site's header.
Important: If the search bar is disabled, shoppers will need to use the Quick View search to start a new search.
Customization Options
Search Bar Text
You can customize the placeholder text for the search bars on both the Quick View and Results Pages. Personalized text can help create a more tailored and branded search experience for your shoppers.
Page Title
You can also customize the page title for your Results Page. By default, it displays:
(term): the search term used
(count): the number of search results found
Customizing the No Search Results Page
The No Search Results setting allows you to customize what shoppers see when a search query returns zero results. You can access this setting from the Interaction Settings section in the main left nav of the Results Page editor, under Layout Settings.
From this page, you can personalize the no-results message and — if you are on the Cart & Merchandising package — surface a Rebuy Widget such as a product recommendations carousel directly on the no-results page.
Why Customizing Your No Search Results Page Matters
When a shopper searches for something and finds nothing, they have no clear next step — and most will leave. Customizing your no search results page turns that dead end into an opportunity by:
Giving you control over the messaging shoppers see so it feels on-brand and helpful rather than generic
Surfacing relevant product recommendations via a Rebuy Widget even when no direct search matches exist, keeping shoppers engaged and driving toward a sale
Reducing bounce risk on zero-result queries
Display Settings
The Display settings let you customize the text message shown to shoppers when their search returns zero results. Changes made in the text input update the Results Page preview in real time as you type.
Setting | Description |
No Results Title | The heading shown to shoppers when a search returns zero results. Supports the |
Default message: No results found for {term}. Check the spelling or use a different word or phrase.
Tip: Use {term} to make the message feel personalized — for example: "No results found for {term}. Try a different search or browse our top picks below."
Rebuy Widget Settings
The Rebuy Widget settings allow you to display product recommendations below the no-results message on the Results Page. This option is available to merchants on the Cart & Merchandising package only. If you do not see this option, check your current Rebuy plan.
When a widget is selected, the Results Page preview updates in real time to show how it will appear on your storefront.
Setting | Description |
Widgets | A dropdown of all Rebuy Widgets in your account. Select a widget to display product recommendations below the no-results message. |
Create New Widget | Opens the Rebuy Widgets page in a new tab so you can build a new widget to use here. |
What happens if a configured widget is deleted?
If a widget that was previously selected for the No Search Results page is deleted from Rebuy, the following will occur automatically:
The selected widget will be cleared, as it is no longer available in Rebuy.
Two yellow warning banners will appear to alert you:
One on the No Search Results configuration page itself.
One in the main Results Page editor left nav, next to this setting, to draw your attention.
If you see these banners, simply select a new widget from the dropdown to restore your No Search Results experience.

Image Ratio Options
1:1: Default square ratio.

The Variant Display settings in Smart Search Results Page control whether variant selectors appear on product cards and whether out-of-stock variant options are hidden from those selectors. These settings live inside the Product Display panel in the Results Page Editor.
(Image example above: The Variant Options Display card in the Results Page Editor's Product Display settings panel, showing the Show Variants and Hide Out of Stock Variants checkboxes)
Variant Options:
Setting | Description |
Show Variants | Displays variant selectors (e.g., color, size) on each product card. Enabled by default. |

If Show Variants is disabled and you enable Hide Out of Stock Variants, Show Variants will automatically turn on. The two settings are dependent on each other.
Note: Variant availability is determined at the time of the search query. If inventory changes in real time, there may be a brief window where the variant selector and actual stock levels do not align.
Column Breakpoints

Add to Cart Button
You can now enable an “Add to Cart” (ATC) button within the Quick View results, giving shoppers a smooth way to add products directly to their cart—great for increasing conversions.

Product Reviews in Smart Search Results Page
The Product Reviews section in the Smart Search Results Page editor controls which review providers display star ratings and review counts in your Results Page search results. Find it in the Results Page editor's left navigation under General Settings > Product Reviews. Opening it loads a dedicated Product Reviews page with a subtitle that reads Select your product review app(s) and customize the display of the star ratings to match your brand.
The Product Reviews page is organized into four sub-sections:
Integrations is a shortcut card with a Rebuy Account Integrations Settings button that opens the main Rebuy Integrations admin page in a new tab. Use this when you want to manage your full set of Rebuy integrations, not just review apps.
Connected in Rebuy lists every supported review app that you have already configured in your Rebuy account. Connected apps can be toggled on or off from this sub-section.
Not Connected lists supported review apps that you have not yet configured in your Rebuy account. Apps here cannot be toggled on until you complete their setup.
Styling controls the size and color of the star rating display in Smart Search Results Page results.
(Screenshot example above: The Smart Search Results Page editor with the Product Reviews page settings.)
How to display review star ratings in Smart Search Results Page
To display star ratings from a review provider in Smart Search Results Page search results:
Open the Smart Search Results Page editor in your Rebuy admin.
In the left navigation, within the General Settings section, select Product Reviews.
If the provider you want to display is listed under Connected in Rebuy, toggle it on. Star ratings will then appear next to matching products in Results Page results.
If the provider you want to display is listed under Not Connected, click Connect next to that provider. This opens the provider's integration setup page in a new tab. Complete the setup, then return to the Product Reviews page. The provider will now appear under Connected in Rebuy, where you can toggle it on.
For full setup instructions on each individual review app, see the Product Review Apps Help Center collection.
Connected in Rebuy in Smart Search Product Reviews
The Connected in Rebuy sub-section of the Smart Search Product Reviews page lists every review app that you have already configured in your Rebuy account. Each connected provider has a toggle that turns its star rating display on or off in Smart Search Results Page results. All toggles are off by default. Star ratings will not appear in Smart Search until you explicitly toggle a provider on.
Each connected provider also displays a Manage link that opens that provider's integration settings page in a new tab within the Rebuy admin, so you can adjust the integration without leaving the editor flow.
If no review providers are currently configured in your Rebuy account, the Connected in Rebuy sub-section displays an info alert reading Connect a provider to display ratings with a Connect button. Clicking Connect opens the main Rebuy Integrations admin page in a new tab so you can pick a supported provider and set it up.
Hovering the Connected in Rebuy header surfaces a tooltip that reads: These review apps are connected in your Rebuy account. Toggle on to display star ratings in Smart Search.
Not Connected in Smart Search Product Reviews
The Not Connected sub-section of the Smart Search Product Reviews page lists supported review apps that Smart Search can work with but that you have not yet configured in your Rebuy account. Apps in this sub-section do not show a toggle, because an integration that is not connected cannot be enabled from the editor.
Each Not Connected app displays a Connect link that opens that provider's specific integration setup page in a new tab. Once you complete setup, the provider moves to the Connected in Rebuy sub-section the next time you load the Product Reviews page.
Hovering the Not Connected header surfaces a tooltip that reads: These review apps aren't connected in your Rebuy account yet. Click Connect to set them up.
Supported review integrations in Smart Search
Smart Search supports star rating display for the following nine review providers:
Styling Product Reviews stars in Smart Search Results Page
The Styling sub-section of the Smart Search Product Reviews page controls the appearance of the star ratings displayed in the Smart Search Results Page. Four settings are available, each defaulting to your current Rebuy theme:
Size sets the star size. Choose from three preset positions on the slider: Small, Default, or Large. There is no custom size input.
Product Reviews Text sets the color of the review text shown alongside the stars, including the review count.
Star Color sets the color of the filled stars.
Background sets the color of the empty star area that appears behind partially filled stars.
To revert any setting to your Rebuy theme defaults, click RESET TO THEME at the bottom of the Styling card.
The only limitation is the Star Size—you can choose from the three preset sizes only. Small, Default, or Large
Content Search
Content Search extends Smart Search beyond products by surfacing blog posts and pages on the search results page. When enabled, a Blog & Pages tab appears alongside the Products tab, letting shoppers switch between the two for the same query.
Content Search on the Results Page is disabled by default and must be enabled in the Results Page Editor under the Content Search section.
Content Search settings
Enable Content Search Turns the Blog & Pages tab on or off. When disabled, the results page displays products only, as usual. Off by default.
Product Tab Title The label displayed on the Products tab in search results. Supports the {{count}} variable to dynamically show the number of product results returned (e.g., Products (28)). Default: Products ({{count}})
Content Tab Title The label displayed on the Blog & Pages tab in search results. Supports the {{count}} variable to dynamically show the number of content results returned (e.g., Blog & Pages (4)). Default: Blog & Pages ({{count}})
Tip: Using {{count}} in your tab titles gives shoppers an at-a-glance view of how many results are available in each tab before they click, reducing friction and setting expectations upfront.
Max Displayed The maximum number of content results shown on the Blog & Pages tab. Adjustable from 1–20 using the – / + controls. Default: 4. This is a maximum, not a guaranteed count — if fewer results are available for a query, only those results will display.
Content Layout Controls whether content is displayed in a grid or list format. Grid (default): content cards in a multi-column grid. List: content in a single-column stacked list.
Content Spacing Controls the spacing between content cards. Options from tightest to loosest: None, Extra-Tight, Tight, Default, Loose, Extra-Loose. For grid layouts, spacing applies side to side. For list layouts, spacing applies top to bottom.
Alignment Controls the horizontal alignment of content titles and descriptions within each card. Options: Left, Center (default), Right.
Content Search styling settings
A Reset to Theme button is available to restore all styling to the store's default Rebuy theme settings.
Setting | Description |
Heading / Title color | Sets the color of the content title on the Blog & Pages tab. Includes a color picker and a Reset to Theme option. |

Content Search limitations
Filters and Sort By controls are hidden when the Blog & Pages tab is active. These controls apply to the Products tab only.
Max Displayed is capped at 20.
Content Search on Quick View and Content Search on the Results Page are configured independently. Enabling one does not enable the other.

Advanced Settings
The Smart Search Results Page Editor includes an Advanced Settings section for merchants who need to apply custom code to the Results Page. From here you can add custom CSS styling and configure JavaScript event callbacks without leaving the editor.
(Screenshot above: Rebuy Admin "Configure Results Page" editor — the "ADVANCED SETTINGS" section in the left panel, which contains "Selectors", "Advanced Callbacks", and "Custom CSS" options)
Selectors
If you have a customized theme, you may need to utilize the advanced selectors within the results page settings to ensure the Smart Search displays properly. Rebuy provides default selectors that are configured to work seamlessly with default Shopify themes, so you might not require these advanced selectors. However, if needed, here are the definitions.
We advise previewing Smart Search before making any adjustments to these settings. In most cases, default themes will function properly with the default elements we have configured for you. These selectors should only be necessary if Smart Search is not behaving as expected.
Embedded Element
An Embedded Element refers to content, such as multimedia or interactive components, that is integrated directly into a web page. This is where we embed the search display to.
(Screenshot above: Rebuy Admin Smart Search "Configure Results Page" — "Selectors" panel showing the "Embedded Element" input field, used to define where the search results page is embedded on the storefront)
Advanced Callbacks: JavaScript Event Callbacks
The Results Page Editor includes configurable JavaScript event callbacks for each stage of the Results Page lifecycle. These let you run custom JS in response to specific Results Page interactions without modifying your Shopify theme.
