Here you can configure settings that apply globally across Smart Search:

  • Search Enabled: Toggle to enable or disable the search feature.

  • Out of Stock Products: Choose how you want to display out-of-stock products in search results:

    • Display all products (Default)

    • Hide out-of-stock products

    • Show out-of-stock at the end

  • Excluded Terms: Edit settings for excluded terms.

  • Excluded Products: Edit settings for excluded products.

  • Excluded Collections: Edit settings for excluded collections.

  • Search Influence: Edit settings for search influence.

Enable Search

This toggle switch enables you to turn the search feature on and off. Note that you also have the ability to enable search on the Smart Search reporting dashboard, but you must use this toggle switch to turn it off.

Search Results Page

Effortlessly customize your store's search experience by defining a custom URL.

β€’ Default URL: Shopify's standard search page is located at/search.

β€’ Custom URL: To set up a custom search page, create a new page in Shopify. Keep in mind that Shopify URLs include the /pages/prefix. For example, if you create a page named "Discover", your custom search URL should be /pages/discover.

Out of Stock Products

Choose how you want to display out-of-stock products in search results:

  • Display all products (Default)

  • Hide out-of-stock products

  • Show out-of-stock at the end

Excluded Terms

Set search terms you want excluded from trending searches by toggling on/off the automatic removal of offensive terms and setting your own list of terms.

Excluded Products

Utilize these settings to exclude products from search results. You can exclude specific product tags, which are tags configured at the product level within your Shopify store settings. Additionally, you can specify products that you want to exclude. For example, you may want to exclude Seasonal or Limited-Time Products in your search as they may be irrelevant for the season.

Excluding products with Product Tags will only exclude them from the Results Page and NOT the Quick View. To exclude products from Quick View results you will want to use the Specific Products section.

Excluded Collections

Setting collections to be excluded from search results offers similar functionality to excluding products. By defining collections that you do not want to appear in search output, you can refine and tailor the search results to better match the needs and preferences of your customers.

By default, excluding a collection also excludes its products from being returned from search results completely. You can change this by deselecting the "Hide Products" option when selecting collections.

Search Influence

Creating rules to influence the order of products returned in search results allows you to customize and optimize the search experience for your customers. It's important to note that featured products will always appear before products impacted by influence rules. This ensures that your prominently featured items receive the attention they deserve, while still allowing you to fine-tune the search results based on your specific business objectives and customer needs.

You can select from the following options:

  1. Handle: URL handle under Search Engine Listing.

  2. Name: Product name (e.g., James French Terry Short or Terry Short or Short).

  3. Description: Product description (e.g., French terry shorts).

  4. Vendor: Product vendor/brand.

  5. Option Value: Represents various options or attributes of the product.

  6. Variant Descriptions: This is not supported by Shopify at this time.

As you add influences, you can adjust the importance of each of them by changing the importance indicator. This allows you to prioritize certain influences over others, influencing the order of products returned in search results.

Handle

The "handle" in the importance indicator refers to the product URL handle that you have configured in Shopify. This handle plays a role in determining the relevance and order of products returned in search results based on the specific URLs associated with each product.

Name

The "name" attribute refers to the title of the product as configured in Shopify. It represents the name or title of each product, which is crucial for search relevance and determining the order of products returned in search results.

Description

The "description" attribute refers to the description of the product as configured in Shopify. It represents the textual description provided for each product, which is important for search relevance and providing detailed information to customers about the products they are searching for.

Vendor

The "vendor" attribute refers to the vendor or brand of the product as configured in Shopify. It represents the manufacturer or supplier of each product, which can be useful for customers who are brand-conscious or specifically looking for products from a certain vendor.

Option Value

The "option value" attribute represents the value for the option configured in the product variants. In Shopify, products often have variants such as size, color, or material. The option value refers to the specific value associated with these product variants, which can be important for customers who are looking for specific variations of a product.
