What are 2.0 Themes and App Blocks
Shopify has unveiled its latest innovation, the Online Store 2.0 Themes, presenting merchants and developers with a broader array of choices for customizing and overseeing their Online Store platforms! The rollout of the 2.0 themes marks a significant leap forward, introducing groundbreaking features such as "App Blocks." These intuitive tools empower merchants by simplifying the process of integrating and positioning widgets seamlessly across any page of their online stores!
Please be aware that app blocks are exclusively compatible with Online Store 2.0 themes. If you are using a vintage (1.0) theme, then head over to the manual installation guide to complete your widget installation.
Customizing with App Blocks
Before you get started!
Ensure that the Rebuy Connector is activated within Shopify! While this setting should be enabled during your initial installation of Rebuy, you can verify it by navigating to your Shopify settings > sales channels > online store > click "customize" on your live theme > click "app embeds" on the left-hand navigation > confirm that the Rebuy Connector is toggled on, as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 1: Copy the Rebuy Widget ID
First things first, let's grab the widget ID you want to install. You will find the widget ID within the Rebuy admin portal as seen here:
Step 2: Accessing the Shopify Admin
To begin, head to the Shopify Admin. This is where you can make changes to your online store. To access the Shopify Admin, login to your store, go to your sales channel and select online store and click themes. Once on the themes page you can click customize.
Step 3: Adding an App Block
Now that you're within the theme editor, you can begin modifying your theme. To incorporate a Rebuy app block, adhere to these instructions.
Locate the section where you intend to integrate the app block. In this illustration, I'll integrate it into the homepage. Once you're in the settings, select "add section." This action prompts a popup window to appear. Within this window, navigate to "apps" and choose "Rebuy."
If you have already added an app block before, you will have a section in your template that shows app blocks. You can just go there to add another block.
Step 4: Add the Widget ID
Once the app block is added, you can click on it and a slide out will appear. In this slide out you can add the widget ID for the widget you are interested in installing.
Step 5: Place the App Block
Fantastic! Now, return to the template page and use click-and-drag functionality to position the app block precisely where you want it to appear.
There are some widgets such as post purchase and thank you page widgets that do not require app blocks such as a Smart Cart Cross Sell, Pre-purchase Cross-Sell, Thank You Page, Gift With Purchase (GWP), and Post Purchase. Please see those articles for the proper directions on how to install those.
And that's it! You've successfully installed an app block on your Shopify 2.0 theme. Feel free to add multiple app blocks to each page. Simply choose the page where you wish to install them and follow the same set of instructions!
