Rebuy's Bundle Builder can give shoppers a filter panel and a sort dropdown so they can narrow down and reorder the products available in your bundle. This article explains how to enable filtering and sorting, which filters are available, how to change the filter layout and text, and what filtering and sorting do not cover.
Both filtering and sorting are turned off by default. You enable them in the Filter & Sorting settings inside the Bundle Builder editor.

Where to find the Filter and Sorting settings
The Filter and Sorting settings live inside the Bundle Builder editor, not in your Shopify theme. To open them:
In Rebuy Admin, go to Bundle Builder.
Click the Bundle Builder widget you want to edit.
In the editor sidebar, click Filter & Sorting.
The sidebar is divided into five sections: Sorting, Filter, Filter Options, Filter Language, and Filter Settings.

How sorting works in Bundle Builder
Sorting in Bundle Builder adds a sort dropdown to the utility bar above your bundle's products, letting shoppers reorder the products shown in each step. To turn it on, open Filter & Sorting and enable the Enable Sorting toggle. It is off by default.
Sorting reorders the products a shopper sees. It does not change which products are available, and it does not affect your steps, quantity rules, or discount tiers.
Which sort options do shoppers see?
When sorting is enabled, shoppers see a fixed set of four sort options in the dropdown. These options are built into Bundle Builder and cannot be added to, removed, or renamed.
Sort option | What it does |
Price: Low to High | Orders products from lowest to highest price, based on the currently selected variant's price. |
Price: High to Low | Orders products from highest to lowest price, based on the currently selected variant's price. |
A - Z | Orders products alphabetically by product title, ignoring capitalization. |
Z - A | Orders products reverse-alphabetically by product title, ignoring capitalization. |
What order do products appear in before a shopper sorts?
Before a shopper chooses a sort option, no sort is applied. Products appear in the order returned by the Data Source attached to each step. If you want a specific starting order, set it in the step's Data Source rules — enabling sorting does not pre-select an option.
Does sorting reorder products across all steps together?
Sorting reorders products inside each step independently, not across the whole bundle. When a shopper selects Price: Low to High, every step's product list is sorted from lowest to highest price within that step. Products are never moved from one step into another.
How filtering works in Bundle Builder
Filtering in Bundle Builder adds a Filters button to the utility bar above your bundle's products. Clicking it opens a panel where shoppers can narrow the products shown by availability, product type, price, tags, or vendor. To turn it on, open Filter & Sorting and enable the Enable Filter toggle. It is off by default.
Three behaviors are important to understand before you configure filters:
Filters only cover products already loaded into the bundle. The filter panel is built from the products your steps' Data Sources return — not from your entire Shopify catalog. If a product is not in one of your steps, no filter will surface it.
A filter selection applies to every step at once. For example, selecting "Vendor: Acme" filters the product list in Step 1, Step 2, and every other step simultaneously.
Filter options refresh as shoppers select them. After each selection, Bundle Builder recalculates the remaining filter options and product counts, so shoppers only ever see options that still lead to products.
Available filters
Bundle Builder offers five filters. Each filter is built from a specific field on your Shopify products.
Filter | Built from | What shoppers see |
Availability | Whether each product is in stock | Two options, Available and Sold Out, each with a product count. An option is hidden if no products match it. |
Product Type | The product's Shopify Product type field | One option per distinct product type found in your bundle's products, each with a product count. |
Price | The lowest and highest product prices in your bundle | A minimum and maximum price range shoppers can adjust. |
Product Tags | The product's Shopify tags | One option per distinct tag found in your bundle's products, each with a product count. |
Vendor | The product's Shopify Vendor field | One option per distinct vendor found in your bundle's products, each with a product count. |
A filter only appears on the storefront if it has values to show. For example, if none of the products in your bundle have a vendor assigned in Shopify, the Vendor filter is hidden even when it is enabled in the editor.
(Screenshot above: the Filter Options flyout, opened by clicking Edit. Each filter has an enable toggle and a Label field for renaming it.)
How do I turn a filter on or off, or rename it?
You turn individual filters on or off and rename them in the Filter Options flyout. To open it:
In the Filter & Sorting sidebar, find the Filter Options section.
Click Edit.
In the flyout, use each filter's toggle to enable or disable it.
To rename a filter, type your preferred wording into that filter's Label field. For example, you can change Product Type to "Category."
If you leave the Label field empty, the filter uses its default name — Availability, Product Type, Price, Product Tags, or Vendor.
How do I reorder the filters?
You reorder filters by dragging them in the Filter Options list in the Filter & Sorting sidebar. The list shows only the filters you have enabled, and the order you set there is the order shoppers see in the filter panel. Disabled filters do not appear in the list and cannot be reordered until you enable them in the flyout.
Choosing a filter layout
The filter layout controls how the filter panel opens on the storefront. To change it, click the Layout card in the Filter section of the Filter & Sorting sidebar, which opens the Filter Layout screen. Two layouts are available and you can only use one at a time.
Layout | Behavior |
Dropdown | The default. The filter panel opens inline, directly beneath the Filters button. |
Flyout | The filter panel slides out over the page with a background overlay, and includes a close button. |
New bundles use Dropdown until you select Flyout.
(Screenshot above: the Filter Layout screen, reached from the Layout card in Filter & Sorting. Dropdown is selected, shown by the highlighted thumbnail; Flyout is the alternative.)
Filter display settings
The Filter Settings section of the Filter & Sorting sidebar controls how the filter panel looks and behaves when it opens. The table below lists each setting and its default.
Setting | Default | What it does |
Icon Selectors | Plus / Minus | Chooses the expand and collapse icons on each filter group. Options are Plus / Minus and Chevron. |
Show Product Count | Checked | Shows the number of matching products next to each filter option. |
Show Selected Filters | Checked | Pins the shopper's active filter selections to the top of the panel as removable tags, with a reset control. |
Keep all filter options collapsed | Unchecked | Loads every filter group collapsed so shoppers expand them as needed. |
Always show first filter expanded | Checked | Expands the first filter group in the list when the page loads. |
(Screenshot above: the Filter Settings section with Plus / Minus selected for Icon Selectors.)
Why is every filter group expanded even though "Always show first filter expanded" is checked?
Always show first filter expanded only takes effect when Keep all filter options collapsed is also checked. Because Keep all filter options collapsed is unchecked by default, every filter group loads expanded, and the first-filter setting has no visible effect. To have only the first filter group open on load, check Keep all filter options collapsed and leave Always show first filter expanded checked.
Customizing filter text
The Filter Language section of the Filter & Sorting sidebar lets you rewrite the wording in the filter panel. Leaving a field empty keeps the default text shown below.
Field | Default text | Where it appears |
Filter Title | Filters | The label on the button that opens the filter panel. |
Selected Filters Label | Selected Filters | The heading above the shopper's pinned active selections. Requires Show Selected Filters. |
Reset Label | Reset | The control that clears all active filter selections. Requires Show Selected Filters. |
No Results Label | No results found | The message shown in the filter panel when no filter options are available, which happens when the current selection leaves no matching products. |
(Screenshot above: the Filter Language section showing the four editable text fields with their default wording — Filters, Selected Filters, Reset, and No results found.)
What filtering and sorting do not do
Filtering and sorting in Bundle Builder are limited to the products your steps already load, and a few behaviors are worth planning around.
The four sort options are fixed. You cannot add, remove, rename, or reorder them, and you cannot set a default sort. To control the starting product order, set it in the step's Data Source.
Sorting works within each step, never across steps. It reorders the products inside each step and does not move products between steps.
Filters cannot use metafields, variant options, or collections. The only filterable fields are availability, product type, price, product tags, and vendor.
Filters never expand the product pool. They narrow the products your steps' Data Sources return. To make a product filterable, first add it to a step's Data Source.
Price filtering uses the selected variant's price. For a product with variants at different prices, the price used for filtering and price sorting is the price of the variant currently selected on the product card.
Filtering and sorting do not change bundle rules. Quantity limits, minimum and maximum bundle length, and discount tiers all behave the same regardless of what a shopper filters or sorts.
Filter selections are written into the page URL. Bundle Builder adds parameters such as rb_availability, rb_categories, rb_price_gte, rb_price_lte, rb_tags, and rb_vendors to the page address as shoppers filter, so a filtered view can be shared or reloaded with the same selections applied.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't the filter or sort controls appear on my bundle page?
The filter and sort controls do not appear if their toggles are off, since both are disabled by default. Open the bundle in the Bundle Builder editor, go to Filter & Sorting, and confirm Enable Sorting and Enable Filter are on, then save. If the controls still do not appear after saving, confirm the bundle is set to Live in Rebuy Admin and that your steps are returning products.
Why is an enabled filter missing from the storefront?
An enabled filter is hidden on the storefront when it has no values to display. Bundle Builder builds each filter from the products your steps return, so a filter with nothing to show is dropped rather than rendered empty. For example, the Product Tags filter will not appear if none of your bundle's products have tags in Shopify, and the Product Type filter will not appear if none of them have a product type set. Check the relevant field on your products in Shopify Admin.
Do Bundle Builder filters search my whole product catalog?
Bundle Builder filters do not search your whole product catalog. They only filter the products already loaded into your bundle by each step's Data Source. If a shopper cannot find a product through the filters, that product is not in any of your steps — add it to a step's Data Source to make it available.
Does a filter selection apply to one step or all steps?
A filter selection applies to all steps at once. When a shopper selects a filter option, every step's product list is filtered by that selection at the same time. There is no per-step filtering.
What happens when no products match the selected filters?
When a shopper's filter selections leave no matching products, the product lists in each step are empty and the filter panel shows the No results found message, which you can rewrite in the Filter Language section. Shoppers can clear their selections using the reset control, which appears when Show Selected Filters is enabled.
Can shoppers use filtering and sorting at the same time?
Shoppers can use filtering and sorting together when both are enabled. Filters are applied first to narrow the products in each step, and the selected sort option is then applied to the products that remain. Both controls sit in the same utility bar above the bundle's products.
