What is the Buy More Save More widget?
The Buy More Save More (BMSM) widget is a Rebuy Merchandising Widget that shows volume-based (quantity-break) discounts on your product page. It presents a set of quantity options called tiers — for example "Buy 3, save 10%" — and applies the selected tier's discount when the shopper adds the product to their cart. Its purpose is to increase average order value on single-product purchases.
How is the Buy More Save More widget different from the Smart Cart Buy More Save More discount?
The Buy More Save More widget is different from the Smart Cart Buy More Save More discount, even though they share a name. The widget is a merchandising widget shown on the product page and is set up under Merchandising Widgets → Product Page → Buy More Save More. The Smart Cart discount is a separate feature applied inside the cart and is set up under Smart Cart Settings → Cart Items → Buy More Save More. Choose the widget if you want quantity-break pricing shown on the product page.
Where does the Buy More Save More widget appear?
The Buy More Save More widget appears on your product page, where it is placed using the Rebuy Widget app block. It shows before the shopper adds the product to their cart, so they can choose a quantity tier at the point of decision.
Can I use the Buy More Save More widget on pages other than the product page?
No — the Buy More Save More widget is a product page widget and only appears on product pages. If it is added to another page type, such as a collection page or a custom page, it will not render or apply its discount, because it relies on the product page's product context.
How many Buy More Save More widget tiers can I create?
You can create up to 20 tiers in the Buy More Save More widget. Each tier has its own required quantity, discount, label, optional description, and optional image.
Can a shopper add just one unit instead of a multi-buy tier?
The Buy More Save More widget controls the quantity added from the product page, so if your lowest tier requires more than one unit, a shopper cannot add a single unit directly from that page. To allow it, either turn on the Single-unit option, which adds a full-price "Buy 1" choice, or create a tier with a required quantity of 1. Shoppers can also lower the quantity to 1 in the cart after adding.
What discount types does the Buy More Save More widget support?
The Buy More Save More widget supports three discount types per tier: a percentage discount, a fixed amount discount, and none (no discount). You set the discount type individually on each tier, so different tiers can use different types.
Can Buy More Save More apply a discount across different products, or only the same product?
The Buy More Save More widget applies its quantity-break tiers to the product the shopper is viewing — the discount is based on buying more units of that same product. It is not a mix-and-match offer that combines different products into a single discount.
Do I need a discount code to use the Buy More Save More widget?
You do not need a discount code to use the Buy More Save More widget. The widget applies each tier's discount automatically through Rebuy created Shopify Functions when the shopper adds the product to their cart, so no code is entered by the shopper.
How are the discounts applied?
The Buy More Save More widget applies its discounts through Shopify Functions. When a shopper selects a tier and adds the product to their cart, Rebuy sets the tier's quantity and applies the discount, so the savings appear in the cart and carry through to checkout. Because the discount relies on Shopify Functions, Shopify Functions must be active for the discounts to apply on your storefront.
Will the discount apply if a shopper adds the product without using the widget?
No — the Buy More Save More discount applies only to items added through the widget. On the product page, the widget controls the Add to Cart button, so adds made there are attributed to the widget and receive the tier discount. The same product added from a source the widget does not control — such as another Rebuy widget or a quick-add on a collection page — is not attributed to the widget and does not receive the discount.
What happens if the same product is added from both the Buy More Save More widget and another source?
The Buy More Save More discount is tied to the widget's attribution on each cart line. When a shopper adds a product through the Buy More Save More widget, Rebuy tags that line item as coming from the widget, and the tier discount applies only to items carrying that tag. If the same product is also added from a different source that the widget does not control — such as another Rebuy widget (for example, a cross-sell or upsell) or a quick-add on a collection page — that item is not tagged by the Buy More Save More widget, so it does not receive the tier discount and appears as a separate, full-price line item in the cart, even though it is the same product. For example, a cart can show one "Ski Helmet" line at a discounted tier price (added through the widget) and a second "Ski Helmet" line at full price (added from another source).
How does the Buy More Save More discount interact with Shopify discount codes?
The Buy More Save More discount is a Shopify Functions product discount, so whether it combines with a Shopify discount code depends on that code's combination settings. If a code is set to not combine with product discounts, only one discount applies, and Shopify automatically uses whichever gives the customer the best (usually the larger) discount. If the code is set to allow combining with product discounts, both can apply together.
What is the single-unit "Buy 1" option, and can I remove it?
The single-unit option is an optional "Buy 1" choice shown before your discount tiers that lets a shopper buy a single unit at full price. It is on by default and never receives a discount. You can turn it off in the widget editor on the Tiers screen using the Include single-unit option toggle. If your first tier already requires a quantity of 1, this option is skipped automatically to avoid a duplicate.
What is Discount Protection?
Discount Protection is an optional setting that caps how many units on a single cart line are eligible for a discount, so a shopper cannot exceed your intended discount by adding a very large quantity. When it is enabled, you set a Max Quantity per Line value, and any units beyond that limit are split into a separate, undiscounted line.
Why isn't my highest tier's discount applying?
If your highest tier's discount is not applying, check the Max Quantity per Line value under Discount Protection. That value must be at least the highest tier's required quantity — if it is lower, the cart line is split before the top tier is reached, so that tier's discount can never apply. Raise Max Quantity per Line to at least the highest tier's required quantity, or turn Discount Protection off.
Can I offer subscriptions with the Buy More Save More widget?
You can offer subscriptions with the Buy More Save More widget using its built-in Subscribe & Save option, which you enable on the Subscriptions screen in the widget editor. This presents a subscription choice alongside the one-time purchase tiers. The widget reads Shopify-native and Recharge selling plans; it does not use selling plans from third-party subscription apps.
Does the Buy More Save More discount stack on top of a subscription discount?
By default, the Buy More Save More tier discount can stack on top of a subscription discount, so a subscription item could receive both. If you do not want them to stack, turn on the Excluded Bundle Discount setting on the Subscriptions screen, which stops the tier discount from applying on top of the subscription discount.
Why is my third-party subscription widget hidden on the product page?
Your third-party subscription widget may be hidden because the Buy More Save More widget hides common third-party subscription controls while it is active. The widget builds its own cart line items and does not read selling plans from third-party subscription apps, so those controls are hidden to avoid a misleading "Subscribe" option. To offer subscriptions, use the widget's built-in Subscribe & Save option instead.
What layouts are available for the Buy More Save More widget?
The Buy More Save More widget offers three layouts: Vertical, Horizontal, and Progress Bar. You choose the layout on the Layout screen in the widget editor. The Progress Bar option appears as "Slider" on its selectable card in the editor.
Can I control which products show the Buy More Save More widget?
You can control which products show the Buy More Save More widget on the Products screen in the widget editor. You can apply it to all products, or to a specific set targeted by individual products, by collection, or by tag. Targeting by collection or tag means new products that match are included automatically.
How do I add an image to a tier, and how many images can I use?
You add an image to a tier by opening that tier's card on the Tiers screen, turning on its Image toggle, and selecting an image. Each tier supports one image.
Does the Buy More Save More widget support variant selection?
The Buy More Save More widget supports variant selection when you enable it on the Widget Settings screen. You can display variants as a dropdown (Select) or as Buttons, and button-style selectors can show color swatches pulled from your theme's assets using the color-<color name>.jpg naming convention.
Does the Buy More Save More widget work with my theme's Add to Cart button?
The Buy More Save More widget works with your theme's native Add to Cart button; it does not add its own button. The shopper's quantity is set by the tier they select, and while the widget is active it hides your theme's quantity selector so the tier controls the quantity.
Does the Buy More Save More widget have its own Add to Cart button, and where should I place it?
The Buy More Save More widget does not have its own Add to Cart button — it uses your product page's existing Add to Cart button. Because of this, we recommend placing the widget directly above your product page's Add to Cart button, so shoppers choose a discount tier before they add the product to their cart and the selected tier's quantity and pricing carry through. While the widget is active, it also hides your theme's quantity selector, since the chosen tier sets the quantity.
How do I install the Buy More Save More widget?
You install the Buy More Save More widget on your product page using the Rebuy Widget app block in the Shopify Theme Editor. In short: copy the Widget ID from the Install page, add the Rebuy Widget app block to your product template, paste in the Widget ID, position it, save, then mark it as installed in Rebuy. For full steps, see the companion install guide at How to Install the Buy More Save More Product Page Widget
How do I preview the widget before it goes live?
You can preview the Buy More Save More widget on your real storefront before it goes live using Storefront Preview Mode. Add ?preview=true to the end of a product page URL (or click Preview Onsite in the widget editor) to see your not-yet-live widget on the page, with a Rebuy preview bar shown at the top. Regular shoppers do not see the widget until you turn Live Mode on.
Why isn't my Buy More Save More widget showing on the storefront?
If your Buy More Save More widget is not showing on the storefront, check three things: that Live Mode is turned on in the widget editor, that the Rebuy Widget app block with the correct Widget ID is added to the product template, and that the widget's Products visibility settings include the product you are viewing. To confirm placement before going live, view the page in Storefront Preview Mode with ?preview=true.
Can I customize the look of the Buy More Save More widget?
You can customize the look of the Buy More Save More widget using the Styles panel in the widget editor, which provides theme and color controls, and — for changes the panel doesn't cover — the widget's Custom CSS field.
