If you need to stop Rebuy from running on your store for a limited time, you can disable Rebuy without uninstalling the app. Uninstalling cancels your Rebuy subscription, so it is not the right choice for a temporary pause. Disabling Rebuy leaves your subscription, widgets, Smart Cart configuration, and flows fully intact, and you can re-enable everything when you are ready.

Choosing how much of Rebuy to turn off
There are two ways to disable Rebuy, and they differ in scope and in how quickly you can reverse them:

Pausing individual features is the safer choice for most situations, because it does not touch how Rebuy loads and there is nothing to re-enable in Shopify afterward. Additionally, using Rebuy's Storefront Preview Mode lets you preview your store with widgets toggled off in live mode, with no impact on shoppers.
Pausing individual Rebuy features
Any Rebuy feature can be turned off on its own, without disabling Rebuy across your whole store. Open that feature's page or editor in the Rebuy admin and turn it off. This works the same way for Smart Cart, widgets, Smart Search, Smart Flows, Post-Purchase offers, Bundle Builder, A/B testing experiments, and Checkout Extensions.
Turning a feature off stops it from appearing for shoppers and keeps all of its configuration. Nothing is deleted, and turning the feature back on returns it exactly as it was.
Turning off all Rebuy features on your storefront
To turn off every Rebuy feature at once, stop Rebuy's JavaScript from loading on your store. Complete all three steps below — skipping any one of them leaves Rebuy loading:
In the Rebuy admin, go to Settings > App Settings and turn off Install Rebuy Script Tag and Disable Rebuy JS.
On the same page, set Enable Rebuy JS to No, then click Save.
In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds and turn off the Rebuy Connector.
The end state is both Rebuy admin settings off and the Rebuy Connector off. No Rebuy features load anywhere on your storefront. Your widgets, Smart Cart configuration, Flows, and Rebuy theme styling are all unchanged while Rebuy is disabled.

Rebuy may still load after these three steps.
Two things load Rebuy independently of the settings above.
First, App Blocks: if your widgets are installed as App Blocks, they load Rebuy on their own regardless of your admin settings — remove those App Block placements to stop them.
Second, manual script tags: search your Shopify theme files for rebuy.js and remove any manual instances you find, or Rebuy will keep loading from them.
Before you investigate either of those, clear your browser cache or open your store in an incognito window. Your own browser can keep showing you Rebuy from cache after Rebuy has already stopped loading for shoppers, which makes a successful disable look like it failed. To check what is actually installed on your store, open Settings > Status in the Rebuy admin: the Shopify Script Tags row in the Integrations section shows how many Rebuy script tags are currently installed, and its Resync button refreshes that reading against Shopify.
How to check whether Rebuy is still loading on your store
You can confirm whether Rebuy is still loading by checking your browser's developer console. This is the most reliable way to tell whether a disable actually worked, because it reads what is running on the page rather than what your settings say should be running.
Run this check on your storefront, not in the Rebuy admin, and use an incognito window or clear your browser cache first so you are not reading a cached version of your store.
Open your store in Chrome.
Open the developer console. Press Cmd + Option + J on a Mac or Ctrl + Shift + J on Windows, or right-click the page, choose Inspect, and click the Console tab.
Type
window.Rebuy?._statusinto the console and press Enter.
The value returned tells you whether Rebuy's JavaScript is running on the page:

A successful disable returns undefined. When Rebuy is not loading, there is also no "Intelligent cross-selling powered by Rebuy." banner in the console.
Treat the window.Rebuy?._status result as the authoritative answer rather than the banner. The "Intelligent cross-selling powered by Rebuy." console banner can be suppressed with a theme script, so its absence alone does not prove Rebuy has stopped loading. What to leave alone while Rebuy is disabled
Some Rebuy-related items in your Shopify admin should not be changed while Rebuy is paused, because removing them breaks Rebuy when you re-enable it.
Do not delete your Rebuy discounts in Shopify Admin, and do not set them to Expired. Rebuy creates its discounts as Shopify Functions discounts, and deleting or expiring them in Shopify Admin turns off Rebuy's discount functionality. Those discounts will not work when you re-enable Rebuy. Leave every Rebuy discount in place while Rebuy is disabled.
If you installed any custom Rebuy code directly into your theme files, you can leave it in place as well. It does not render anything while Rebuy is disabled, and leaving it means there is nothing to reinstall later.

Re-enabling Rebuy
To bring Rebuy back, reverse whichever method you used to disable it.
If you paused individual features, open each feature's page or editor in the Rebuy admin and turn it back on. Each feature returns with its configuration unchanged.
If you disabled Rebuy JS, reverse all three steps: turn the Rebuy Connector App Embed back on in your Shopify theme, then in the Rebuy admin under Settings > App Settings turn Install Rebuy Script Tag and Disable Rebuy JS back on and confirm Enable Rebuy JS matches the setup you had before. Your widgets and configurations return exactly as they were.
If Rebuy features do not come back right away, do these three things.
First, clear your browser cache or open your store in an incognito window — cached data can keep showing you your store as it looked while Rebuy was disabled, even after Rebuy is loading correctly again.
Second, resync your webhooks: go to Settings > Status, find the Webhooks card in the Data Sync Status section, and click Resync.
Third, resync your script tags: in the Integrations section of the same page, find the Shopify Script Tags row and click Resync. Each resync typically completes within a few minutes and does not affect your live site or your shoppers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I temporarily disable Rebuy to avoid being billed?
No, disabling Rebuy does not change your billing. Disabling Rebuy stops its features from running on your storefront, but your subscription stays active and you continue to be billed on your normal cycle. Billing stops only when you uninstall the Rebuy app from your Shopify admin before your next billing cycle begins. See Managing Your Rebuy Subscription for uninstall steps and billing details.
Will I lose my widget and Smart Cart settings if I disable Rebuy?
No, you will not lose any settings by disabling Rebuy. Your widgets, Smart Cart configuration, Post-Purchase flows, data sources, and Rebuy theme styling are all retained while Rebuy is disabled, and they work exactly as before once you re-enable it.
Why is my Smart Cart enable toggle greyed out?
If the enable toggle on your Smart Cart is greyed out and will not respond, an A/B test experiment is currently running on that cart. Smart Cart carts cannot be enabled or disabled while an experiment is active. End the experiment first, then disable the cart.
Should I uninstall Rebuy if I only need it off for a few days?
No, uninstalling is not the right way to pause Rebuy for a short period. Uninstalling cancels your Rebuy subscription, and if you are on an annual contract you need to contact your account manager before uninstalling. To stop Rebuy for a few days, disable Rebuy JS using the three steps in this article, then reverse them when you are ready to bring Rebuy back.
I disabled Rebuy but my widgets are still showing — why?
If Rebuy features still appear after you disabled Rebuy JS, one of two things is still loading Rebuy. First, check whether your widgets are installed as App Blocks, which load Rebuy independently of your Rebuy admin settings. Second, search your theme files for rebuy.js and remove any manual script tags you find, since Rebuy loads from those regardless of your admin settings. Also confirm that the Rebuy Connector App Embed is turned off in your Shopify theme editor.
I re-enabled Rebuy but my features are not showing — what should I check?
If Rebuy features are still missing after you re-enabled Rebuy, work through these three checks in order:
Clear your browser cache, or open your store in an incognito window. Cached data can keep showing you your store as it looked while Rebuy was disabled, even after Rebuy is loading correctly for shoppers.
Resync your webhooks. Go to Settings > Status in the Rebuy admin, find the Webhooks card in the Data Sync Status section, and click Resync. This refreshes the communication channels between Shopify and Rebuy.
Resync your Shopify Script Tags. In the Integrations section of the same Status page, find the Shopify Script Tags row and click Resync. This row also shows how many script tags are currently installed and whether they are connected.
Each resync typically completes within a few minutes, and resyncing does not affect your live site or your shoppers. If you do not see a Resync button on the Status page, resyncing has been turned off for your store — contact Rebuy Support and they can run it for you. Can I disable Rebuy on one theme but keep it running on another?
Yes, you can control which themes Rebuy loads on. This is a different setup from disabling Rebuy entirely, and it is covered in How to conditionally load Rebuy for certain users or on specific themes only. Use that guide when you want Rebuy live on your published theme while a draft or staging theme runs without it.
What the "Rebuy JS is already loaded" warning means
If you see the warning "Rebuy JS is already loaded." in the console, Rebuy's script ran more than once on the page. Rebuy is loading twice, which is a duplicate loader problem rather than a settings problem. There are two common causes:
A manual Rebuy script tag was added to the theme, by you or your developer, while one of Rebuy's own install methods is also active.
A duplicate app block or theme snippet was left behind after a previous Rebuy install or reinstall.
The fix is to find and remove the duplicate loader, not to change any Rebuy setting. Search your theme files for rebuy.js, remove the extra instance so only one loader remains, and check App embeds and your app block placements for a leftover duplicate. Changing your Rebuy admin settings will not resolve this warning while a second loader is still present in the theme.
