How to Temporarily Disable Rebuy Without Uninstalling

If you need to stop Rebuy from running on your store for a limited time, you can disable Rebuy without uninstalling the app. Uninstalling cancels your Rebuy subscription, so it is not the right choice for a temporary pause. Disabling Rebuy keeps your subscription, widgets, Smart Cart configuration, and flows intact, and you can turn everything back on when you are ready.

You can disable part of Rebuy or all of it, and the choice changes how you bring Rebuy back. The following table compares the ways to disable Rebuy by what you turn off, what stops on your store, when to use it, and how to reverse it.

Pausing one feature at a time is the safer choice for most situations, since it does not change how Rebuy loads and there is nothing to turn back on in Shopify afterward. To see your store without Rebuy with no impact on shoppers, you can also use Storefront Preview Mode.

Any Rebuy feature can be turned off on its own without disabling Rebuy across your whole store. Open that feature's editor or settings page in the Rebuy admin and turn off the toggle that makes it live on your store. For widgets, this toggle is Live Mode. This works the same way for Smart Cart, widgets, Smart Search, Smart Flows, Post-Purchase offers, Bundle Builder, A/B testing experiments, and Checkout Extensions.

Turning a feature off stops it from appearing for shoppers and keeps all of its configuration. Nothing is deleted, and turning the feature back on returns it exactly as it was.

To turn off every Rebuy feature at once, stop Rebuy from loading on your store. Complete every step below, since skipping any of them leaves Rebuy loading:

Leave Enable Rebuy JS via script tag (legacy, ends Mar 1, 2027) as it is. You do not need to change it to disable Rebuy, since turning off Enable Rebuy JS via Rebuy Connector already removes your store's Shopify script tag.

When you are done, Enable Rebuy JS via Rebuy Connector and the Rebuy Connector are off, so no Rebuy features load on your storefront. Your widgets, Smart Cart configuration, flows, and Rebuy theme styling are unchanged while Rebuy is disabled. Rebuy removes its Shopify script tag shortly after you turn off Enable Rebuy JS via Rebuy Connector, so Rebuy can keep loading for a short time after you save.

Rebuy's Checkout Extensions and Post-Purchase offers keep running after you stop Rebuy from loading, since they run inside Shopify's checkout and do not use Rebuy's storefront script. To stop them too, turn each one off in the Rebuy admin, as described in the section on pausing individual Rebuy features.

From October 1st, 2026, Shopify no longer lets apps add new script tags. Once Rebuy's script tag is removed, it cannot be added back, so you bring Rebuy back through the Rebuy Connector, as described in the section on re-enabling Rebuy below.

Rebuy widget app blocks, and any <script> tag in your theme code that loads rebuy.js, load Rebuy on their own, regardless of your Rebuy admin settings. If Rebuy still loads after you complete the steps above, check for each of these.

Before you look into either one, clear your browser cache or open your store in an incognito window. Your own browser can keep showing Rebuy from its cache after Rebuy has already stopped loading for shoppers. To see what Rebuy has installed on your store, open Settings > Status in the Rebuy admin. The Shopify Script Tags row in the Integrations section shows how many Rebuy script tags are currently installed.

You can confirm whether Rebuy is still loading by checking your browser's developer console. This is the most reliable way to tell whether a disable actually worked, because it reads what is running on the page rather than what your settings say should be running.

Run this check on your storefront, not in the Rebuy admin, and use an incognito window or clear your browser cache first so you are not reading a cached version of your store.

The following table shows what each result means.

A successful disable returns undefined. When Rebuy is not loading, the console also has no Intelligent cross-selling powered by Rebuy. banner. Treat the window.Rebuy?._status result as the real answer rather than the banner, since the banner can be hidden with a theme script. Some Rebuy items in your Shopify admin should not be changed while Rebuy is paused, since removing them breaks Rebuy when you turn it back on.

Do not delete your Rebuy discounts in Shopify, and do not set them to Expired. Rebuy creates its discounts as Shopify Functions discounts, and deleting or expiring them in Shopify turns off Rebuy's discount features, so they will not work when you turn Rebuy back on. Leave every Rebuy discount in place while Rebuy is disabled.

If you added custom Rebuy code directly to your theme files, you can leave it in place too. It does not show anything while Rebuy is disabled, and leaving it means there is nothing to reinstall later.

To bring Rebuy back, reverse the method you used to disable it.

If you paused individual features, open each feature's editor or settings page in the Rebuy admin and turn its toggle back on. Each feature returns with its configuration unchanged.

If you stopped Rebuy from loading on your storefront, bring Rebuy back through the Rebuy Connector:

Your widgets and configurations return exactly as they were.

If Rebuy features are still missing after you re-enabled Rebuy, work through these checks in order:

Resyncing does not affect your live site or your shoppers. If you do not see a Resync button on the Status page, resyncing is turned off for your store, so contact Rebuy Support to run it for you. For every resync option, see Sync Product Data, Store Data, and Clear Cache.

No, disabling Rebuy does not change your billing. Disabling Rebuy stops its features from running on your storefront, but your subscription stays active and you are billed on your normal cycle. Billing stops only when you uninstall the Rebuy app from your Shopify admin before your next billing cycle begins. See Managing Your Rebuy Subscription for uninstall steps and billing details.

No, you will not lose any settings by disabling Rebuy. Your widgets, Smart Cart configuration, Post-Purchase flows, data sources, and Rebuy theme styling are all retained while Rebuy is disabled, and they work exactly as before once you re-enable it.

If the enable toggle on your Smart Cart is greyed out and will not respond, an A/B test experiment is currently running on that cart. Smart Cart carts cannot be enabled or disabled while an experiment is active. End the experiment first, then disable the cart.

No, uninstalling is not the right way to pause Rebuy for a short time. Uninstalling cancels your Rebuy subscription, and on an annual contract you need to contact your account manager before uninstalling. To stop Rebuy for a few days, stop Rebuy from loading on your storefront using the steps in this article, then turn Rebuy back on through the Rebuy Connector when you are ready.

If Rebuy features still appear after you stopped Rebuy from loading on your storefront, something else is still loading Rebuy. Check whether your widgets are installed as Rebuy widget app blocks, which load Rebuy regardless of your Rebuy admin settings. Search your theme code for rebuy.js and remove any <script> tag that loads it. Confirm the Rebuy Connector is off in your Shopify theme editor. Rebuy also removes its Shopify script tag shortly after you turn off Enable Rebuy JS via Rebuy Connector, so it can keep loading for a short time after you save.

If Rebuy features are still missing after you re-enabled Rebuy, clear your browser cache first, then confirm the Rebuy Connector is on in App embeds and Enable Rebuy JS via Rebuy Connector is on in Settings > App Settings, since the Rebuy Connector loads Rebuy only when each of these is on. If features are still missing, resync your webhooks from Settings > Status. Turning on Enable Rebuy JS via script tag (legacy, ends Mar 1, 2027) does not restore Rebuy from October 1st, 2026, since Shopify no longer accepts new script tags.

The Rebuy JS is already loaded. warning in the browser console means Rebuy's main script, rebuy.js, was added to the page more than once. Rebuy runs the first copy and stops any extra copy right away, so your store keeps working. Common causes include:

When the extra copy comes from your theme code, search your theme code for rebuy.js, remove the extra <script> tag that loads it, and check App embeds and your app block placements for duplicates. Leave custom widget templates, event listeners, and custom CSS in place, since that code does not load a second copy of Rebuy.
